Four cases filed for alleged tax evasion for US$500 thousand

The minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya, arrived at the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), to present four new cases for alleged tax evasion for an approximate amount of US$500 thousand.

The first of the notices is a natural person dedicated to the sale and distribution of non-alcoholic beverages, for approximately US$28,000 allegedly evaded Value Added Tax (VAT).

Likewise, the second case is a company engaged in the rental of construction machinery and other equipment for civil works services, for around US$60,000 allegedly evaded VAT.
 
The third of the notices is for a company that we have documentation that has withheld Income Tax from its employees and has not paid the respective declaration for about US$128,000.
The fourth case presented involves a natural person who allegedly evaded Income Tax for about US$282,000. The taxpayer is engaged in the sale and distribution of fuel.
 
In addition to the four notices for tax evasion, the Dirección General de Aduanas (DGA), filed two cases totaling US$1.6 million for alleged technical smuggling, within the framework of the Anti-smuggling Plan.
 
The first of the cases represents one million (dollars) in 22 operations and the second, US$600,000. Both are natural persons dedicated to the importation of various goods", said Customs Director Samadhy Martínez.

The head of Customs explained that what they have under the Anti-Smuggling Plan is US$62.3 million, a significant amount in notices filed.
 
The Deputy Director of Internal Taxes of the Ministry of Finance, Luis Cañas, says that the first case of presumed evasion corresponds to a taxpayer who is dedicated to the sale of food products, while the second, to the slaughter of cattle and pigs.
 
Regarding the case of the taxpayer who did not detail to the Treasury the income withholding to his employees, the Deputy Director of Internal Taxes, Luis Cañas, commented that people are waiting for their refunds, but they cannot be effective.
