BCR announces the launching of the Estrategia Nacional de Educación Financiera

The Consejo Nacional de Inclusión y Educación Financiera (CNIEF) officially launches the Estrategia Nacional de Educación Financiera (ENEF).

The strategy will allow developing the financial capabilities of salvadorans, that is, their financial knowledge, attitudes and behaviors.

The President of the BCR, Douglas Rodríguez, was in charge of announcing the launching. The event was attended by the President of the BFA, José Eduardo Aguilar, and the President of the Banco de Desarrollo de El Salvador (BANDESAL), Moisés Salvador Cabrera.

In addition, the head of the BCR, said that it is not enough to have a bank account, but that the institutions should provide the knowledge to make good use of the financial system and the services it offers, and mentioned that with the ENEF people will increase their knowledge and improve the financial behavior and attitudes of the population.

He said that the BCR's national skills survey showed that only 6% of salvadorans have received some type of financial education in their lifetime.

The CNIEF decree mandates the design of a strategy to complement the Estrategia Nacional de Educación Financiera. ENEF is also composed of specific strategies for priority segments: the educational community, business people and entrepreneurs, employees, among others.

The deputy director of Sparkassen's Regional Project in El Salvador, Cayetano Betaglio, explained the importance of financial education, mentioning that it will fulfill specific objectives in addition to the Financial Inclusion Policies.

With the approval of the ENEF, El Salvador joins the seven Latin American countries that currently have this instrument.
