Written by Evelyn Alas

The Minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya in a morning interview expressed that this year this State portfolio obtained about 16% more in Income Tax (ISR) declarations.

According to the official, one of the factors that helped this increase is, because in 2021, there was a good record of generation of new companies and also the second was the faithful compliance to the tax procedures carried out by the salvadorans.

He added that they have had surpluses in their own fiscal planning for about US$395 million, and they will continue to strengthen the Anti-evasion Plan, this helps the collection to sustain these increases in expenses.

Zelaya points out that the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), reported that tax collection fell in many countries and El Salvador is not in that list, our collection has increased.

In addition, ECLAC recommends that Latin American and Caribbean countries implement policies to improve tax collection and mechanisms to make tax payment more efficient.

He said that now the Ministry of Finance will start with phase 3 of the Anti-evasion Plan and will continue to pursue those who are not paying taxes.

He assured that in the scenario of non-payment and as Minister his priority will always be to comply with each of the commitments of the Salvadoran State.
