BCR highlights that 60 thousand jobs grew to february 2022

According to statistics published by a report of the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR), between february 2021 and the same month of this year, more than 60 thousand jobs were created in the formal sector of the economy.

In detail, the BCR confirmed that 60 thousand 912 jobs were opened, which represents an increase of 7% compared to a year ago.

According to the institution, which cites figures from the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS), a total of 58,455 of these positions were opened by the private sector and the remaining 1,737 in different public institutions.

The same entity informed that the unemployment rate registered in february 2022 was 3.8%.

The BCR detailed that, of the 60,912 new positions, the services sector created 20,906, the same as commerce, transportation, lodging and food services; while industry opened 13,349 and professional activities and business support services 14,566.

New jobs increased by 11.2 % in professional activities and business support services, 10.5 % in trade, transportation, accommodation and food services, 8.7 % in the service sector and 7.2 % in industrial activities.

This dynamism in the generation of new jobs and sources of employment has allowed formal employment to remain for the sixth consecutive month well above 900,000.

According to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, as of february of this year, the number of jobs in the formal sector of the economy was 917,462 people.
