With the objective of promoting partnership and dialogue on priority issues on the strategic partnership agenda between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated in the "European Union - Central America: New Alliances for Development Dialogue Conference", held in Panama.

During the meeting, the pending development challenges within the framework of post-pandemic recovery were jointly discussed in a sustainable manner and best practices were exchanged to promote coordination and cooperation among member states.

CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, noted: "In fulfilling our role as the bridge of opportunities between the region and the world, we are very pleased with the close relationship we maintain with strategic partners such as the EU and we are eager to announce the opening of our office in Spain, Central America's gateway to Europe, which we are sure will be of great benefit to both parties.

This initiative, organized by the EU-LAC Foundation, was created to mark the 200th anniversary of Central America's independence in order to provide a space for reflection on the republican experiences and democratic processes in the region. CABEI's Country Chief Officer for Panama, Carlos Moreno, participated on behalf of CABEI.

In January of this year, Panama assumed the Pro Tempore Presidency (PPT) of the Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana (SICA), promoting five priority pillars: social integration, democratic security, institutional strengthening, climate change and comprehensive risk management and economic integration.

The strategic relationship between CABEI and the European Union has made it possible to channel resources for projects in the region aimed at strengthening both the financial sector and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the preparation of projects with a climate focus, whose resources administered by CABEI total US$105.9 million. The alliance has also promoted cofinancing operations totaling US$113.3 million with renewable energy, water and sanitation components, as well as infrastructure projects.

The EU recently signed a non-reimbursable agreement for €4.9 million for the preparation of climate change projects for the benefit of the Central American region as part of CABEI's Fondo de Preparación de Proyectos de Inversión en Cambio (FCC).
