WeXchange call for proposals finalists present their companies to investors

Written by Evelyn Alas

Fifteen women entrepreneurs in STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) from Latin America will present their startups to potential investors on may 24 at the event developed by BID Lab under its WeXchange platform, focused on technology entrepreneurship led by women.

The finalists of the WeXchange Women STEMpreneurs Competition will be heard by the most relevant investors of the venture capital industry in our region, who will meet in Miami on the occasion of the VC Latam Summit, organized by nine national associations of venture capital and private equity.

More than 300 applicants applied for this call aimed at the most innovative and dynamic women entrepreneurs in the region. The startups had to have a female founder or a woman in their leadership team and technology had to be a key element of their product or service. The companies must also be in the process of raising financing, be headquartered and operate in at least one country in Latin America and the Caribbean.

"WeXchange is one of BID Lab's flagship platforms to develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean while addressing priorities such as gender equality. Companies with women in their leadership teams generate better returns on investment. Women entrepreneurs, technology and innovation form a virtuous circle that helps keep Latin America and the Caribbean on the path to recovery", said Irene Arias, CEO of IDB Lab.

The finalist startups come from seven countries in the region (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru) and are focused in the areas of finance, education, health, food, agriculture, veterinary, human resources, commerce, and artificial intelligence and big data. In addition to contacting potential investors, the representatives of these fifteen companies have had the opportunity to participate in a five-day bootcamp organized by Google to receive specific training including workshops on technology, digital marketing, leadership and capital raising.

The STEM leader finalists who will present their companies are:

Ingrid Briggiler, founder and CEO of Nume (Argentina), a monthly subscription solution to purchase contraceptives and access medical consultations in a simple and affordable way.
