Learn how to live on half of your income

Written by Evelyn Alas

Living on half of your salary doesn't have to generate frustrations, annoyances, and much less indebtedness.

On the contrary, people with a high degree of financial intelligence resort to this practice more often than you might think.

1. Spend on a budget

Personal budgets are a critical success factor because they allow you to set financial limits and goals for the short, medium and long term.

They literally function as a kind of economic guide, therefore, they clearly indicate how you should manage your money, and what your financial behaviors are. Be sure to define your fixed expenses (such as those related to buying food or paying basic services, rent or mortgage on your home).

2. Save consistently and intelligently

Savings must have a structure and a sense. That is to say, it must aim at punctual goals and it also needs to stick to a plan. That is, you cannot improvise when it comes to saving, because this will keep you away from your financial independence.

3. Work on your financial intelligence

It is important that you understand the psychological game of money and shopping, and that based on that you retrain your brain and mind so that you do not fall into excesses. One of the most difficult tasks you have to do is to assume saving as a fixed expense.

4. Do not create false expectations

If you really want to start living on half of your salary and enjoy the whole process, it is necessary that your financial expectations are realistic.

For example, if your monthly salary is US$300 dollars, and you are planning to live on US$150 dollars, it would be illogical for you to plan a trip to London based on that budget.

However, you can allocate a percentage of that money to more modest forms of fun, enjoyment and entertainment.
