Defensoría has carried out 445 inspections for compliance with the Consumer Protection Law

The President of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, informed in a radio interview that in the plan for the verification of compliance with the Consumer Protection Law about 445 inspections have been made. They have found 8% of non-compliance in the area of misleading advertising.

Regarding the inspections on technical consumer regulations, the institution has made approximately 300 verifications of scales calibration nationwide.

For the verification of energy efficiency labeling, the Defensoría del Consumidor, has carried out 400 inspections and 400 verifications of biosafety in shopping centers before Covid-19.

Salazar confirms that they have attended approximately 7,600 consumers this season. Financial services accounted for 33%, household appliances 15% and telecommunications 17% and these represent 65% of all the attentions.

Likewise, 53 % of the attentions provided have been through non-face-to-face mechanisms, through its virtual platform, Defensoría 2.0 application, or through calls or messages to Whatsapp 7860-9704.

The institution also highlighted with its Conciliación Virtual program and Agenda tu cita to facilitate the resolution of consumer disputes between consumers and suppliers.
