CEL assures that the US$403.3 million budget allocated will be used to restore the hydroelectric power plant

Members of the Finance and Special Budget Commission received the President of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), Daniel Álvarez, who explained the strategic plan to be developed next year with the US$403.3 million budget allocated to it.

Among the projects to be carried out is the asset renewal and replacement program, which will modernize, rehabilitate and expand the automation of the hydroelectric plants' equipment.

According to the official, the aim is to reduce maintenance times, to guarantee a constant flow of power and to use technology that does not harm the environment.

Likewise, the rational and adequate use of energy resources will be promoted.

The funds will also be used to pay off debts, provide financial, technical and human resources for the execution of the projects; support the activities carried out by the operating units; monitor, review and follow up the use of natural resources, detect and evaluate business opportunities.

The head of CEL expressed that they are working to provide efficient solutions in spending and their priority is public and social investment. In addition, they are working on a series of strategies to generate opportunities together with the communities near the 3 de febrero hydroelectric power plant.

The legislators were in favor of supporting the institution because they consider that the actions it carries out will make it possible to meet the demand for electricity.

Likewise, the President of the legislative board, Christian Guevara, stated that they are convinced that, with this budget allocation for next year, CEL will optimize the efficiency and quality to operate and maintain in good conditions the facilities and equipment of the hydroelectric power plants.
