CABEI and El Salvador sign US$625 thousand agreement to benefit technical-vocational high school students

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), with the support of its Fundación de Apoyo Social (FAS), signed a non-reimbursable financial cooperation agreement with the Republic of El Salvador to carry out the Bicentennial Scholarship Program, which aims to contribute to social welfare and improve access to education for students from the eighth grade of Basic Education until they complete their Vocational Technical High School studies.

The agreement was signed by CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, and the minister of Finance, José Alejandro Zelaya, as representative of the coordinating organization on behalf of the Government of the Republic of El Salvador.

"Through this scholarship program, we promote education and encourage students from vulnerable communities with excellent academic performance to complete their studies, providing them with the opportunity to excel in different educational and employment areas", said CABEI executive president, Dr. Dante Mossi.

The purpose of this program is to contribute to the education of students with excellent academic performance who do not have access to vocational technical high school because they do not have sufficient financial resources. The program will benefit 25 students per year, for a period of 5 years, for a total of 125 beneficiary students. The selected students will receive financial support that will enable them to have access to transportation, food, connectivity, educational materials (photocopies, literary works, printing, among others), tools and materials specific to the specialty of the technical baccalaureate they are studying.

Since 2020, CABEI created the FAS to promote high-impact social projects in its member countries. This initiative responds to the multilateral's actions in support of poverty reduction and improving the quality of life of citizens in the region, as contemplated in CABEI's Institutional Strategy 2020-2024, specifically in the Strategic Axis of Human Development and Inclusion.
