ETIAS, the travel authorization for Europe, will be valid for business, pleasure and short term travel.
The cost of the electronic validation will be 9 euros, or US$9.88, and the duration will depend on the validity of the traveler's passport.
One of the main objectives is that the ETIAS permit will contribute to the security of European borders. This European travel permit will facilitate the identification of potential threats and risks associated with people wishing to travel to any of the countries in the Schengen zone.
Those wishing to work, study or live in Europe must apply for a visa. Once the permit is approved by the system, the permit will be valid for 3 consecutive years or until the applicant's passport expires, whichever comes first.
This permit will not accept persons deported from other countries, persons with criminal records or problems with the law and is likely to become effective as of november of this year.
Although, in addition to making travel safer, ETIAS travel authorizations will also help EU countries and all travelers in the following ways:
Reduce paperwork and waiting periods; Improve the management of EU countries' borders; Assist in the detection and reduction of crime and terrorism; prevent irregular migration; complement the EU's visa liberalization policy.
