The U.S. Department of Gender, FUNDEMAS and Tigo El Salvador strengthen gender equality through digital inclusion for women entrepreneurs

The U.S. Department of Gender in partnership with FUNDEMAS will be promoting gender equality in El Salvador through the "MujerProspera" challenge, implemented under the Biden Harris Administration in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, which aims to address the root causes of irregular migration.

 

 

The program will be supported by the initiative led by FUNDEMAS "Mujeres en Acción" focused on developing a culture of equal opportunities between women and men with a business and community perspective, and will benefit women in Tigo El Salvador's "Conectadas" program, which seeks to provide education in digital tools to salvadoran entrepreneurs FUNDEMAS joined Tigo El Salvador and its "Conectadas" project, to benefit in 2023 more than 1,500 women through training in digital citizenship and 50 women Tigo Money Agents, who are part of the Tigo value chain, who will receive specialized training for the digitization of their business. This effort will contribute to reducing the digital divide to improve the business and social competitiveness of Salvadoran women.

As FUNDEMAS we believe in the best version of El Salvador, which we can achieve with the support of different actors, such as TIGO El Salvador, who have worked to contribute to the social and economic development of our country and especially for the benefit of salvadoran women.

“In addition, on this occasion we have the valuable support of the US Department of Gender to promote a culture of gender equality in the country and thus contribute to improving the quality of life of the participants of the Conectadas Project”, Haydée de Trigueros, executive director of FUNDEMAS, said.

"Conectadas" is a digital education program developed by Tigo El Salvador, which supports the empowerment and digital inclusion of women through technology. Since 2021, together with FUNDEMAS and other allies, the CONECTADAS program has benefited more than 1,700 women, mainly entrepreneurs, offering them technical assistance in the use of digital tools such as WhatsApp Business, digital marketing, digital inventories for their businesses, among others.

"Through the Conectadas program, Tigo El Salvador reiterates its commitment to the development of salvadoran women by promoting access to digital tools for their personal growth and business productivity. By 2023 we will continue to fulfill our purpose of promoting digital education for women entrepreneurs, together with our strategic allies", said Edgard Grande, CEO Tigo El Salvador.

Since 2021 and thanks to the support provided through training and technical assistance, the beneficiary women have achieved a growth of more than $14 million dollars in sales attributable to the program, generating more than 800 jobs through business by the beneficiaries, making the program a model of empowerment of women, economic growth and employment generation based on technology.
