The project will be carried out in two phases: The first phase, will have the purpose of increasing the cargo level from 26 thousand to 52 thousand metric tons, this will only be achieved with the design, construction, improvement of spaces, equipment and maintenance.

The second phase will be in charge of increasing the cargo level from 52,000 to 73,000 metric tons. With this project completing the two phases, the operational capacity will be increased by 150%.

The President of CEPA said that the idea is to develop it in Public-Private Partnership, with a contract that does not exceed 35 years in both phases; the president of the Economy Commission, Rodrigo Ayala said that it is not a privatization, but a synergy of forces to develop the project, as well as to provide better services, among others, social works in the surroundings of the area.

Officials said that this will translate into more job opportunities for salvadorans who will be able to work in the design, improvement, expansion and construction of the cargo terminal.
