MAG conducted inspections to prevent bean price hikes in Santa Ana

The Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), through the Dirección General de Economía Agropecuaria, accompanied the inspections of the Defensoría del Consumidor in the surroundings of Mercado Colón, in the city of Santa Ana.

The Vice Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Óscar Guardado, joined the teams that conducted the inspections, together with the president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, and representatives of the Ministry of Finance, who corroborated that each merchant had the documentation in order.

These days also allow to prevent hoarding and speculation, actions of some unscrupulous traders that affect the pockets of salvadorans.

The Vice Minister affirmed that since day one, the teams have been working to guarantee the supply of products to the salvadoran people, there is no reason to increase the price of beans.

The Government, through MAG, is also working with producers so that the country produces its own food and imports are reduced; in addition, after tropical storm Julia, farmers will have all the support to recover crops and ensure harvests.

Soon the new harvest will be ready and, therefore, more products will be coming to the markets, which will put the necessary pressure on prices to level out.

These inspections are carried out to importers, packers and wholesale and retail distributors in commercial centers nationwide. They affirm that there are supply conditions that should not give way to unjustified price increases.
