Minister of Economy and minister of Finance presented reform to FIREMPRESA Law to subsidize minimum wage increase

Through the reforms to the Ley de Creación del Fideicomiso de Recuperación Económica de las Empresas Salvadoreñas (FIREMPRESA), the Government proposes to allocate US$100 million to subsidize the increase in the minimum wage of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, together with the Minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya, presented before the Legislative Assembly an initiative to finance the subsidy for the minimum wage increase, granted for one year, which will take effect as of august 1.

"The subsidy will be applicable among companies that have from 1 to 100 employees and that have approved the minimum wage increase. MSMEs can be sure that the President's Government is thinking of them", said the minister of Finance.

 

The head of the Treasury explained how the subsidy will be carried out through the Banco de Desarrollo de El Salvador (BANDESAL), so he said, the entity has a database of the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS) companies from 1 to 100 employees, when it corresponds to make the increase to the minimum wage during the month of august, then you can approach BANDESAL, to make them the disbursement or refund for what has been paid to the minimum wage.

"The law establishes that this can be done up to 12 installments, it will depend on when the request is presented, each person will decide when to do it", said the Treasury Secretary.

"With this initiative the #MYPEs will be accompanied in this 20% increase to the minimum wage. We are working in an articulated way so that it will be executed by BANDESAL from August 20", said the minister of Economy.

In addition, they pointed out that the increase in the minimum wage is accompanied by the delivery of 2.1 million food packages so as not to affect the population.
