Written by Evelyn Alas

The President of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), Daniel Álvarez, participated in the inauguration of the Energía del Pacífico (EDP) power plant, which consists of three components: thermal power plant, liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal, and transmission line.

This project is the most important private investment in the country, which exceeds US$1 billion. It is part of the mega-project for electricity generation based on natural gas, and shows that in El Salvador it is possible to invest when the rules are clear.

The head of CEL explained that since may 1, when it started operating, they are already seeing positive results from EDP, in which El Salvador has not imported a single megawatt of energy and has been able to be part of the leverage of economic measures, sustaining the price of energy.

With the inauguration of this modern power generation plant, not only is the energy matrix being transformed, but also the lives of many families in Acajutla, in Sonsonate, who have had positive changes due to the complementary works carried out in the areas of influence.

Invenergy's CEO, Michael Polsky, explained that the electricity already being produced at the power plant covers 30% of the country's energy needs and provides the necessary structure for a growing economy.

To date, Invenergy has developed more than ten projects for the benefit of the communities of Acajutla, among them, the introduction of electric energy, reconstruction of streets and avenues, improvements in educational, entertainment and sports complexes; in addition, it will soon begin to improve seven educational centers in the area of influence.

Daniel Álvarez, said that the country is growing in one of the areas that is pushing the national economy, which is energy, now with a clear and forceful bet on renewable energies.
