The President of the Defensoría del Consumidor and the team of inspectors of the institution visited the rice company Omoa, which packages and commercializes products of the basic food basket, such as rice, beans, rice, corn and flour.

The head of the Defensoría del Consumidor affirmed that within the company there is an important supply of the products marketed, continuous operation and full functioning of the plant.

He also said that the institution is carrying out the corresponding investigations in order to be able to determine the cost structures that seek to avoid unjustified price increases as part of the 11 economic measures that are being carried out at national level.

He emphasized that the company not only distributes to supermarkets, but also sells to wholesale stores and market stalls nationwide that remain pending the Omoa brand.

He said that he calls on the population to report any abrupt increase in the prices of products, through our social networks, 910 and WhatsApp 7844-1482.

The official added that so far there have been more than 6,500 verifications nationwide and more than 100 requirements to different importers and marketers of food and agricultural inputs.

As a result of these verifications, 8 cases have been presented to the sanctioning courts which are in the process of being admitted and once they are issued, they will proceed to be sanctioned.
