Yesterday, President Nayib Bukele inaugurated the new and modern facilities of the Torogoz Water Treatment Plant, which will now provide 100% of its capacity and will distribute drinking water to 1.5 million inhabitants of the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador with a total investment of US$78 million.

The investment for the execution of this project was thanks to the support provided by the French government, which donated US$61.5 million, and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), which granted US$16.5 million, for a total amount of US$78 million.

The modernization project at the Torogoz Water Treatment Plant consisted of installing 29 new motors and 24 filters, completely renovating the drinking water treatment process at the intake and along the entire production line. The water quality control laboratory was also remodeled and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that detects heavy metals and pesticides.

"We decided to modernize the water treatment plant as the salvadoran people deserve, as a plant that works at 100% and produces not only a large amount of water that reaches its maximum water production, but also has quality water", said the president.

In addition, the President added that to modernize the plant they have achieved the efficient use of energy, strengthening the production system and increasing the production capacity from 1.6 to 3.0 cubic meters per second.

The President of Administración Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (ANDA), Rubén Alemán, said that the project to modernize the water treatment plant began in 2015; however, at the time President Bukele's administration began, there was only 3% progress and a financial progress of 17%.

He added that the water treatment plant is one of the main plants supplying water to El Salvador, which provides drinking water service to more than 40% of the population.

The head of state announced the implementation of other projects that will benefit the population in the coming year.

This plant was previously called Planta Las Pavas, but ANDA's image also changed, so the inauguration of the repair of this plant was used as an opportunity to announce both changes.
