Electricity prices tend to remain unchanged

Written by Evelyn Alas

In the new tariff schedule published in traditional media by AES El Salvador and Delsur, there are some increases and some reductions, all depending on whether it is residential, general, public or industrial service.

It is expected that during the next three months the value of electric energy will be maintained and will be in force from october 15, 2021 to january 15, 2022.

Fuels have increased the value in their prices, since oil prices have been elevated, reaching more than US$80.25 per barrel, when previously it cost US$60 on average, this could make that the generation of energy based on bunker could be increased.

However, rainfall at this time has been abundant, so reservoirs have maintained an adequate level to generate clean and slightly cheaper energy.

Also, last quarter residential energy went up a little more than 6% with the energy distribution companies CAESS and Delsur, which manage the energy service to more than 1 million salvadoran homes.

Up to august, hydroelectric energy production is 43.30%, geothermal energy is 23.54%, thermal energy generation is 7.02%, solar energy production is 8.25% and wind energy is quite low at 0.62%.

Also, in order to reduce the cost and consumption of electricity, the following is recommended:

Turn off unused lights

Use low consumption lamps. If possible, use LED lamps

Turn off the computer at night, do not leave it on or in hibernation mode

Do not leave your cell phone charging all night. Just a few hours is enough

If you have air conditioning, set the thermostat at 24 degrees. For each degree that the temperature decreases, you will be consuming between 5% and 8% more energy.

Unplug appliances you are not using. Eight percent of your home's electricity is consumed by appliances on standby. This is known as vampire consumption.
