The minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya, requested the Legislative Assembly (LA) to reallocate US$100 million for the 262 municipalities in the country, so that mayors can meet their obligations. The decree was approved with 79 votes in favor.

After the US$191 million that the Legislative Assembly approved last may, for the mayors' offices, in less than four months US$291 million have been reallocated.

He also explained that the US$100 million to be transferred will be in two payments of US$50 million. The first is expected to be delivered in the next few hours and the second in the first days of october.

He also stated that they are freely available, as was the case with the previous decree that was delivered last may, for US$191 million. The mayors will be able to pay current expenses or carry out public investment projects for the benefit of the salvadoran population.

However, the Minister of Finance called on the mayors' offices to review the debts left by previous administrations (2018 - 2021). "We know well that many of these debts were inflated and unfinished projects. We ask them to review well in order not to fall into default due to misuse of funds. Review well each of the debts left by previous governments and only cancel strictly institutional debts", said the minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya.
