El Salvador begins talks with IMF to ensure post-pandemic growth

Written by Alondra Gutiérrez

As part of actions to ensure post-pandemic economic growth, El Salvador begins discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to ensure sound public finances and the necessary financing to implement projects in the country.

The talks are in response to the regular Article IV mission and the Government of El Salvador's request to the IMF for Extended Fund Facility financing.

To this end, an IMF mission led by Alina Carare will hold virtual meetings starting this Tuesday, April 6, with members of the Economic Cabinet and other public institutions, as well as private sector and civil society organizations, representatives of international organizations, among others.

Through the dialogue with the Fund, El Salvador considers that it is an opportunity to implement measures to continue with the economic recovery of the country after the impact of Covid-19, and it is also aware that El Salvador has begun a new political stage that makes it possible to work together with other sectors of society and international organizations, such as the IMF to promote economic growth with sustainable public finances.
