The Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), presented today the economic offer for the construction of the Chinameca and San Vicente geothermal plants, within the framework of the international competition process in which approximately US$620 million will be invested.

The Asociación Salvadoreña de Industriales (ASI), indicated that in 2020, 72% of the energy demanded in the country will be covered by renewable energies, of which geothermal energy represents 24.3%; hydroelectric energy 29.84%; 10.23% corresponds to biomass and 8.48% to solar photovoltaic, which has allowed El Salvador to be one of the countries that has taken accelerated steps in the investment of renewable energy projects in Central America.
