Written by Evelyn Alas

Plan International El Salvador, an organization that has been promoting children's rights and equality for girls for more than 45 years in El Salvador, presented its new Country director, Dr. Anabell Amaya, in an event in which she showed her work platform for the next five years under the new strategy called:

"Unstoppable Generation" which has the ambition that by 2027, girls, boys and young people in Central America and Mexico will live free of violence, lead changes for their full development and have opportunities.

This important event was supported by the director of Plan International for Latin America and the Caribbean, Debora Cobar, who encouraged all sectors to continue being part of this work that impacts the lives of children and youth. Also participating was Carmen Elena Alemán, who served for five years as head of the country office, and now has a new role as director for Central America and the Caribbean.

Anabell Amaya has been a member of the humanitarian organization for about 17 years and in all that time she has been able to see first hand the reality of children in rural areas of the country. One of Amaya's priorities during her leadership will be to promote equality and promote the rights of girls and women, because they continue to be one of the most vulnerable groups and for this reason, the organization has been a pioneer in providing attention to them, with women making up 60% of project participants.

Another major focus under the new leadership will be the effectiveness of its interventions and ongoing accountability. Plan International is committed to developing and implementing programs of the highest quality, based on solid evidence, constant monitoring and evaluation, listening to the populations it serves and taking into account their ideas and needs.

Over the next five years, the organization, which has a long-term presence in the departments of Chalatenango, Cabañas, La Libertad and the southern zone of San Salvador, will increase its research and data generation, as well as strengthen alliances at the local, departmental and national levels, as well as with private enterprise, cooperants and its donors in order to benefit a total of 73,000 people.
