Fundación Campo and Fundación Gloria Kriete show results of food security project in Usulután

With the objective of supporting the strengthening of the livelihoods of the most vulnerable families in rural El Salvador and promoting crop diversification to counteract the effects of climate change, Fundación Campo developed the project "Food security for families affected by COVID-19 in the municipalities of Nueva Granada, Estanzuelas and Mercedes Umaña, in the department of Usulután", financed by the Fundación Gloria Kriete (FGK).

In 2021, under its development approach for rural communities, Fundación Campo participated in the program promoted by the Fundación Gloria Kriete (FGK). "Ayudando a Quienes Ayudan 2021", NGO category, with the Food Security project, obtaining second place with an amount of US$75,000.

The initiative has promoted crop diversification through the implementation of fruit plots with individual terraces, family gardens with biointensive method (MBI) and backyard poultry farming; this process is accompanied by agricultural advice from Fundación Campo staff, using different methodologies of technical assistance, individual or group.

"This is the objective of our program Ayudando a Quienes Ayudan, working with our partner organizations. On our part, we provide them with tools and economic support to implement the projects they propose, and many times we achieve more than expected", said Keny Márquez, director of the Ayudando a Quienes Ayudan program.

This project has benefited 1,150 families, 22 communities and 3 municipalities in the department of Usulután, through the delivery of 10,000 backyard birds and 5,850 fruit trees, as well as support with chili, tomato, bean and radish seeds for the production of 150 home gardens. The total cost of this project is US$89,000.

To conclude the project, a field day was held with the participation of some beneficiaries and representatives of Fundación Campo and Fundación Gloria Kriete, to share the experiences acquired in the implementation of the productive initiatives.

The beneficiaries say they are happy with this project because they are obtaining quality crops and have acquired new knowledge through training and technical support.

The NGO category is one of the three categories awarded within the FGK's Ayudando a Quienes Ayudan program. The other two categories are Community Development and Social Entrepreneurship. Each year, FGK launches an open call to fund and leverage the scope of social projects according to these three strategic areas of impact.
