Arajet, the new Dominican low-cost airline, will start selling tickets from US$55 each way and US$149 round trip, including taxes, from El Salvador, connecting Santo Domingo with new tourist and commercial experiences, turning the country into a hub for the Americas.

Victor Pacheco, president of Arajet, affirmed that the airline will mark the rebirth of dominican aviation and that they project to move 7 million passengers annually in a period of approximately 5 years.

"We promised low prices, and we are going to have fares never seen before", said Pacheco who added that "starting in september we will begin the road to convert Las Americas International Airport into the new Caribbean Air Hub, which will allow us to connect the continent at the lowest cost, with world class services and with new and more efficient airplanes in the market", said Pacheco.

The first flight from El Salvador from Aeropuerto Internacional Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero will be this coming september 17 with the following frequencies: Wednesday and saturday. In addition, it was informed that from september 15 it will arrive to Mexico City and Monterrey and Cancun will also be linked to that destination.

From that date on, it will also fly to Barranquilla, Cali and Cartagena in Colombia; Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador; Lima in Peru; Guatemala City in Guatemala; San Salvador in El Salvador and San Martín, Aruba and Curacao in the Caribbean.

Alvaro de Oleo, Arajet's Vice President of Marketing, explained that there will be three fare levels. "We will start with more than 5,500 thousand seats with prices ranging from US$55 to US$100 each way; and at US$149 each way, and at $149 round trip with taxes included, through our Web www.arajet.com then we will have temporary promotions and then regular prices; and in all cases we will make sure that it is the lowest fare in the market", said Alvaro de Oleo.

Arajet also announced that as of october it will increase its routes, adding flights to Toronto and Montreal, Canada; Medellin and Bogota, Colombia; San Jose, Costa Rica; and Kingston, Jamaica; thus establishing a wide route network of 20 destinations in 12 countries in its first 3 months of operations.

With respect to flights to the United States, Pacheco informed that "we are actively working with the Dominican government to obtain the corresponding permits and begin service to that country as soon as possible. In this way, we will be able to offer low fares to the Dominican Diaspora which, at present, must pay high prices and who are clamoring for a warm and human service".

Arajet will start operations with five new Boeing 737 Max-800 aircraft. As explained, these are state-of-the-art aircraft designed to be environmentally friendly, with 14% less fuel consumption compared to most single-aisle aircraft, which will enable the airline to save on fuel, maintenance and operating costs and, in turn, pass these savings on to customers.
