Nestlé, in its purpose of developing the full power of food to improve the quality of life, today and for future generations, participated in the Sustainability Week organized by the Fundación Empresarial para la acción social FUNDEMAS .

In the virtual conference, under the theme "Startup's and their role in the Sustainable Ecosystem," the manager of Nestlé El Salvador, Rodrigo Romera, shared with business leaders of the country, the initiatives promoted by the company in terms of youth employability, through the Alianza por los Jóvenes Salvadoreños, a multisectoral initiative that seeks to promote youth employability in the country.

The representative of Nestlé El Salvador made a special call to join efforts among all sectors of society, as the main action to build a path towards better opportunities for youth. Rodrigo Romera was joined in the presentation by Gustavo Ostorga, a young salvadoran, winner of the youth entrepreneurship contest Innovatón Youth 2021, a regional competition developed through the Alianza por los Jóvenes Salvadoreños, in which Gustavo was the winner at the Central American level with his education project "One Star Book", as a valuable sample of the talent of the more than 480 young salvadorans who registered their ideas.

FUNDEMAS, as well as other public and private sector entities, have been key allies for Nestlé in the development of the Alianza por los Jóvenes Salvadoreños, agreeing on the need for the different sectors of the country to get involved to create opportunities for the new generations.

The CEO of Nestlé El Salvador, Rodrigo Romera, during his speech said "At Nestlé we are convinced that young people are the present. Today 40% of our employees are millenninals. To achieve this we believe in the alliance, in the co-creation between the different sectors, which allows us to provide these young people with the necessary tools to provide them with the opportunity of a job.

Our philosophy of Creating Shared Value allows us to be that bridge between corporate social responsibility, our people, and our brands", he added.

Nestlé is focused on generating initiatives and alliances that aim to achieve goals and inspire companies to adopt strategies to create value for society.

In 2020, the company promoted the Alianza por los Jóvenes Salvadoreños, which today has the support of more than 30 members from academia, companies, government authorities and non-governmental organizations, focused on reducing youth unemployment and breaking barriers that young people go through in the labor market, aligned to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) N°8-Decent Work and Economic Growth and N°17-Partnerships to achieve the goals.

The Alianza por los Jóvenes Salvadoreños has a roadmap focused on creating opportunities for young people, promoting dual education, designing programs that ensure better linkages between the private sector and the education sector, so that all those involved act for the future of young people.

"The alliance, which is part of Nestlé's global commitment, Youth, has impacted the lives of more than 80,000 Central American youth, of which more than 5,200 are salvadoran, and they have benefited from administrative, technical and job search training. Likewise, our young people have shown creativity, drive and a desire for entrepreneurship, which is why we have incorporated an entrepreneurship pillar", concluded Romera.

According to estimates by the International Labor Organization (ILO), the youth unemployment rate (considering the population aged 15 to 24 years old looking for work) reached 17.8% in 2019 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Although in that year youth unemployment in El Salvador was lower than in the region (9.5%), it nevertheless represented more than double the overall unemployment rate of 4.0%.
