Davivienda customers participate in the release of more than 80 thousand sea turtles

Written by Evelyn Alas

Banco Davivienda continues its commitment to develop a culture of sustainability by executing actions that allow it to contribute to biodiversity and environmental care; therefore, through its Conservación de Tortugas Marinas program, which sponsors hatching pens located in San Diego and El Majahual beaches, it recently carried out a release in which its customers participated.

During the entire turtle hatchling season in 2022, a total of 346 turtles were captured and tagged between both beaches (202 in San Diego and 144 in Mahahual). These tags allow us to advance research on reproductive biology, movements, distribution and growth rates, in order to implement programs aimed at the conservation of the species.

The program, which is part of Davivienda's sustainability strategy in the country, generates value for salvadoran society, on the one hand, through actions that allow for an environmentally friendly performance, and creating a positive impact on customers and their families, who have been able to be agents of change by supporting the release of newborns through release days on the coasts of El Salvador.

This whole process has been possible thanks to the support provided by salvadorans by opening savings accounts for this purpose. During the last period from august to december, nearly 36 thousand green savings accounts were opened (Daviplata, Fixed Term Deposit, Mobile Account) with which Banco Davivienda is committed to release a total of 107,157 turtle hatchlings.

It is important to point out that a total of 1,484,433 hatchlings have been released in the last 13 consecutive years in alliance with the Fundación Zoológica de El Salvador, FUNZEL.

"Davivienda is the only financial institution that, through a strategy of shared value through savings accounts, is committed to the biodiversity of El Salvador. Today we are very happy to know that every year more customers join this project and we invite them to continue together to promote the development of coastal communities and the protection of our environment", said William Molina, head of Eastern Zone Agencies of Banco Davivienda.

For Davivienda, the participation of salvadorans is important, but also of FUNZEL's work team and the turtle community, which is supported by 130 families that coordinate the conservation corrals in the department of La Libertad, who are the key players in achieving the successful outcome of the program.

Banco Davivienda appreciates the trust of customers who already participate in this program and invites more salvadorans to open their green savings account or increase the one they already have, to be participants in protecting the environment that will be inherited to future generations.
