Plaza Mundo Soyapango inaugurates its new Photovoltaic Plant

Written by Evelyn Alas

At Grupo Agrisal we are highly committed to generating clean energy in our properties. We started in 2017 by installing 1,134 solar panels in Plaza Mundo Soyapango.

This year we are proud to inaugurate a new photovoltaic plant installed on the entire roof of the mall, totaling 5,966 panels covering an area of 11,000m2. It began operating in its entirety in september of this year.

The energy they generate avoids more than 2,300 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year and is equivalent to more than 15,000 trees planted. The electricity generated is totally clean and is equivalent to 30% of the facilities' consumption.

This project, with an investment valued at more than $2 million, was carried out thanks to the support of partner companies such as: Alterna de España, LUX Ingenieros and M + H Ingenieros. More than 50 people dedicated their time and knowledge from different organizations to build and supervise the photovoltaic plant, contributing to the care of the environment.

Plaza Mundo Soyapango opened its doors in Soyapango 19 years ago, and now consists of more than 400 stores and 110 kiosks that make life easier for the inhabitants of Soyapango and its surroundings by having everything in one place. The shopping center also has other measures to protect natural resources. The bathrooms and faucets have a system for metering the water to be consumed by users, thus reducing the amount of water needed for these uses. In addition, a permanent garbage separation and recycling program is maintained with tenants.

In october 2020 we opened the doors of our second shopping center, Plaza Mundo Apopa. From the moment of its opening, the mall is a sign of our commitment to the environment. "The mall transformed an industrial land into an oasis of recreation at the service of the population,"where more than 300 trees were planted, it has efficient equipment for energy saving, LED lighting and air conditioning, rainwater is reused and natural light is used, it also has a photovoltaic plant that generates 1,600 KWP, which produces 30% of the energy of the entire mall", said Mario Valdes, director of Development.

Mario Cruz, manager of the Energy Business says "the decisions made today affect new generations, we have to start thinking about the environment and the photovoltaic plants represent a big step towards this and thus leave a better future for new generations".

We are building a Sustainable Agrisal, focused on Wellness, Planet and Transformation. Our properties are focused on meeting the objectives of sustainable development by reducing the footprint of emissions and waste, thus strengthening the energy and environmental sustainability of the country.
