Banco Promerica launches breast and cervical cancer awareness campaign

Written by Written by Coralia Cuellar//Evelyn Alas

Banco Promerica through its Banca con Solidaridad program in alliance with the Fundación Actuar es Vivir launched the campaign “Más Fuerte que Nunca”, with the objective of generating awareness among the population about the importance of women to periodically perform a self-examination and a medical check-up, which allows for the early detection of cancer as a key element for the effectiveness of subsequent treatment.

Through this initiative, different supports will be provided to benefit Fundactuar's operations, including a cash donation, which since 2014 has been provided by the bank, a line of solidarity items, a fundraising campaign, as well as the dissemination of different messages to raise awareness among the population.

Fundación Actuar es Vivir is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and early detection of the two types of cancer that most affect women: breast and cervical cancer, through periodic check-ups among low-income women aged 18 and older.

A contribution that saves lives

In october, the month in which World Breast Cancer Day is commemorated, Banco Promerica made a financial contribution of $100,000 to the Fundación Actuar es Vivir as it has done for the past 8 years, so that the foundation can continue its operations and contribute to saving more lives.

"As a bank, we believe that together we can overcome limits and be part of the solution for many women in vulnerable conditions, by giving them the opportunity to access medical attention that allows them to know their health situation and detect cancer in time, so as not to lose valuable time that risks the success of a treatment", said Lázaro Figueroa, president of Banco Promerica.

To date, the Fundación Actuar es Vivir has benefited more than 14,700 women, which has meant the beginning of life-saving medical treatment.

Articles that bring hope

This year Banco Promerica invited the salvadoran designer, artist and entrepreneur, Nancy Rivas, to create a batch of articles that will be placed in Promerica branches throughout the country, in order to raise funds that will be given to the foundation to continue its noble work.

Rivas is the creator of the brand Miss Bambi Quote, who is characterized by her vibrant designs as well as inspirational and motivational phrases on her products.

"We like to support salvadoran talent and by choosing a designer like Nancy, we are also strengthening our strategic pillar of support for women. Her designs and phrases will be available to all customers who wish to collaborate with the purchase of an article and with this they will be giving access to health to a salvadoran woman", explained the assistant manager of Marketing and Communications, Maria Teresa Arana.

An invitation to show solidarity

As part of the Fundactuar's fundraising efforts, collection boxes will be placed in Promerica's branches, so that people who wish to support the cause can make their donation, and they can also help through the bank's digital platforms.

Joining efforts in its fight against cancer Banco Promerica will maintain an active campaign in its social networks, in addition to internal activities that seek to raise awareness about not lowering our guard with the so-called "silent disease", since in its early stages it does not present symptoms that affect people's daily activities and that, unfortunately, quickly deteriorates health when it is identified in advanced stages, limiting the effectiveness of treatments.

"Cancer does not discriminate; it is similar for all women who suffer from it, regardless of their social status, race or marital status. We work so that through a checkup it can be identified, so the patient begins treatment as soon as possible, something that is key, as well as family support", said the executive director of the Fundación Actuar es Vivir, Alejandra Menéndez.

Banco Promerica invites all salvadorans to share with their family and friends these messages of awareness, to join this cause that seeks to save women in general, so important in their roles as mothers, daughters, wives or friends.
