The ecological foundation Salvanatura, Club Rotary Santa Ana, Club Rotary Santa Tecla and Escuela de Ciencias de la Comunicación de la Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado, presented the launch of the movement #Yolimpio Lago de Güija.

Rotary #Yolimpio, is a program of rotarians against the pollution of the Planet, this initiative seeks to raise awareness among the population about the importance and current state of water resources in El Salvador. The megaproject focuses specifically on Lake Güija, located in the department of Santa Ana.

To take action towards everyday situations that affect the environment, #YoLimpio invites service organizations, private companies and the salvadoran population to join in cleanup campaigns and actions aimed at improving the environment through awareness, education, motivation, integration and recognition.

In 2010, the Ramsar Convention declared Lake Güija a Sitio Ramsar because of its international importance due to its biological richness, as it serves as a refuge for a significant number of seasonal migratory waterfowl.

These natural resources allow the Sitio Ramsar to be used for fishing, as well as agricultural and tourism activities within the framework of sustainable development, plus the preservation of species listed as endangered by the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), such as the spiny-throated garrobo, the hoary parakeet, the yellow-naped parrot, and the zonto cat.

The megaProyecto #YoLimpio! Lago Güija seeks to highlight the environmental, social and economic importance of Lago Güija for the country. Likewise, it seeks to rescue it from the pollution it suffers, coming from its surroundings, through the promotion of education on the conservation of a Ramsar site and that they must have the necessary means to have a greater participation as a progressive solution to this problem.

We commemorate in this month of June the International Environment Day (June 5) with the launch of this megaproject, before the media, the efforts that aim to rescue and care for Lake Güija, generating a call to action with awareness, awareness and education to the salvadoran population about the importance of the lake.

In support of the megaproject #YoLimpio Lago Güija, students of the School of Communication Sciences of the Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado, have provided support with the dissemination of the megaproject in traditional and digital media, creation of a manual for managing social networks, production and editing of multimedia material to be used in both digital and traditional media, an agenda of allies and the donation of cleaning supplies by the Ternova company.
