Written by Evelyn Alas

Thanks to the Movilidad Laboral program promoted by the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

For the third time, the U.S. company Silver Bay Seafoods arrived in the country with the purpose of selecting local labor to strengthen and cover its operations, focused on processing fish and other seafood, in Alaska.

"As Central Government we are very pleased that you are part of this selection process in which our chosen workers will take advantage of job opportunities in a temporary way without risking their lives and traveling in a safe, orderly and regular manner", said the Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility, Cindy Mariella Portal.

The official said that, undoubtedly, for the country, it is a source of pride that the salvadoran labor force is outstanding, qualified, efficient and above all, that it is in great demand in the United States. In addition, he detailed that in this new stage between 400 and 500 workers are needed and highlighted that El Salvador is the main supplier of H2B visas, for the fishing and seafood processing sector in Alaska.

"My experience was excellent, the impact it had on me and my family was very great; I thank the Central Government of El Salvador, I thank you for giving us the opportunity to travel legally", said Melvin Paez, a beneficiary of the Movilidad Laboral program.

The Movilidad Laboral program began in 2021, with the placement of 151 salvadorans; to date, the Government has placed more than 4 thousand workers. The presence of U.S. companies in the country reaffirms that the work mystique and knowledge of Salvadorans are an attraction for employment abroad.

The Central Government will continue to work to eradicate irregular migration by providing a legal and temporary avenue of employment opportunities for salvadorans in the United States.
