Written by Evelyn Alas

As part of its commitment to strengthen the country's identity, and unite people in a new way of seeing El Salvador, Bancoagrícola launched the thirtieth edition of its editorial project El Salvador un Rincón Mágico with the book Artesanos de corazón.

"For 29 years, through this collection of books, we have given ourselves the task of compiling diverse themes that connect us with our roots and infect us with all the good things that belong to us. As a bank, each of our publishing projects represents a link with El Salvador, a country to which we are committed, and encourages us to continue promoting sustainable development for the well-being of all", said Rafael Barraza, Executive President of Bancoagrícola.

Craftsmanship dates back to ancestral times and represents the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of communities. During pre-Hispanic times, the native peoples developed techniques and knowledge, and with the Spanish conquest they acquired new knowledge and skills that, transmitted from generation to generation, have reached our days as an invaluable treasure.

The book, written by archaeologist and historian José Heriberto Erquicia and folk art researcher Danilo Villalta, offers a new perspective that has as its main objective to promote the efforts of women and men who, with their knowledge, ingenuity and creativity, continue to use inherited techniques to transform raw materials and create utilitarian and decorative objects of great artistic quality, which have become manifestations of our cultural heritage.

In addition, it offers a heterogeneous and present vision of the handcrafted product as a living cultural fact, through a journey through colors, shapes, processes and stories. Each page is a window to the commitment, hard work and ingenuity of the artisan sector to keep alive a heritage and contribute to cultural, social and economic development, thus generating welfare and identity for thousands of salvadoran families.

"In this way we want to inherit a legacy for current and future generations with this journey through the history of our country. We hope that by reading this edition, readers can explore another aspect of our identity, and find more reasons to feel proud to be salvadoran, because in El Salvador, every corner is magical", concluded Rafael Barraza.

As the bank of salvadorans, Bancoagrícola, through its Cultural Promotion Program, presents El Salvador, Artesanos de corazón. With this new edition, the bank continues to set a trend by rescuing and promoting the history and traditions of El Salvador.
