Millicom (Tigo) and Glasswing International announced the launch of a joint mentoring program to support students and young professionals in Latin America during Glasswing's Eighth Annual Benefit Gala, held in New York City.

Glasswing, a non-profit organization that empowers individuals and communities, also paid tribute to Millicom (Tigo) and its mission to build the digital highways that connect people, improve lives and develop communities, during the event held as part of Glasswing's 15th anniversary.

The mentoring program will initially focus on supporting diverse service corps in Central America: "Jóvenes Líderes de Impacto”, a service-learning initiative exclusively supported by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and launched in partnership with Glasswing.

Working closely with the Alliance for Central America, its corporate members and the Central America Leadership Initiative, the program will initially mobilize hundreds of Tigo mentors for youth; to connect and inspire them, and to direct them to internship, training and employment opportunities.

The program will generate hope and increase community pride by harnessing the potential of the region's youth to bring positive change to their communities.

"Tigo has proudly supported Glasswing over the years and is very excited to embark on this new chapter of cooperation. A mentor is critical to professional development, so this program speaks to Tigo's mission to connect people and improve their lives. We are proud to support the students as they work to fulfill their dreams and become agents of change in Latin America", said Mauricio Ramos, CEO of Millicom (Tigo), who accepted the recognition awarded to Tigo on thursday night.

"Tigo was Glasswing's first corporate sponsor and we are incredibly grateful for their support. Over the past 15 years, Tigo has been involved in various initiatives, mobilizing thousands of volunteers to support programs and providing crucial assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an organization that seeks to create opportunities for children and youth, we are excited about this new mentoring program. Thanks to this collaboration, established under Mauricio's leadership, in 2023 many young people in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador will have access to mentors who will support them in building their confidence so they can access more career opportunities and improve their lives", said Celina de Sola, co-founder and president of Glasswing.

Since his early days at Millicom (Tigo), Ramos has pioneered many initiatives, including transforming the company into a fixed and mobile Internet business with a strong focus on Latin America.

Under his leadership, Millicom (Tigo) consolidated its purpose of "building digital highways that connect people, improve lives and develop communities" and a strong corporate culture described by its slogan

"Sangre Tigo", which led them to be recognized as one of the Top 3 Best Multinationals to Work for in Latin America in the Great Place to Work survey.

Business leaders, fashion pioneers, social figures and foreign dignitaries were welcomed at Guastavino's by Glasswing co-founders Celina de Sola, Ken Baker and Diego de Sola, along with co-chairs Carmen Busquets; Donna Karan; Juan Moore; Enrique R. Muñoz, III; Jana Pascual de Shapiro; and Host Committee members Alexandra Araujo, Ariadna Gutiérrez, Xitlat Herrera, Eliabeth Madigan, Fernando Palomo, Maite Perroni, Calu Rivero and Mauricio Samayoa. Guests enjoyed dinner, dancing and a special performance by award-winning violinist Mapy.
