Assist Card celebrates 50 years of global leadership

Written by Evelyn Alas

Assist Card, the leading company in comprehensive travel assistance has maintained and consolidated its position, having been in the market for 50 years at a global level and 28 years conquering salvadoran travelers.

With an extensive network of providers worldwide, 6 alarm centers and its own technological structure dedicated to personalizing the travel experience, the company has adapted during this half century to offer solutions that meet the preferences and needs of its travelers at all times.

"We have been leading the industry for 50 years, thanks to our high standards of quality, our resolution capacity and the ability to adapt nimbly, to offer our clients solutions that fit the preferences and needs of each one of them. And as a foundational leader, Assist Card has the obligation to set the vision and the future of the category, and therefore we work every day to continue supporting the revival of tourism and continue positioning ourselves as the best ally of travelers", said Leonardo Tonhaiser, Assist Card's Regional Country manager Central America, Panama & Caribbean.

For these 50 years, the company's main focus is to continue working on two clear objectives: new products and investment in technology.

As regards the development of new products, the new product is already available in the local market and in the region, with a maximum global coverage amount of US$3 million, the highest in the market. It has its "add on COVID EXTRA", which covers non-medical contingencies arising from a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, such as trip cancellation or interruption or quarantine at destination, and on the other hand, it has coverage for pre-existing diseases for US$35,000.

In addition, it has health or funeral repatriation up to US$150,000 and luggage tracing in less than 24 hours.

"This is a competitive product that will surely be well received in the local market, given that the trend shows that local travelers are increasingly opting to strengthen their travel assistance coverage", emphasized Leonardo Tonhaiser.

In line with the development of technology, during 2022, the company will continue to focus its efforts on providing the best service with a robust, state-of-the-art infrastructure that will enable it to assist its clients wherever they are. The idea is to take its services to a self-managed experience where customers can manage their products independently and their relationship with Assist Card is increasingly personalized and 100% digital.

Agility in times of COVID 19

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the company has been able to adapt, and one of its most notable efforts was the decision to cover COVID-19 in all products as any other illness at the destination, in addition to offering the possibility of contracting its products while the person is traveling. Innovation is in Assist Card's DNA, and that is why in the middle of the pandemic it launched the additional service COVID EXTRA, which complements the medical assistance up to the top of the coverage that the company has been providing in all its products and which applies indistinctly to national and international products. This product covers non-medical contingencies arising from a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, such as trip cancellation or interruption or quarantine at destination.

Travel trends in the new normal

In may 2022, Assist Card conducted an intentionality study on the national and international destinations preferred by salvadorans to travel protected with comprehensive travel assistance. As a result, the study showed that

The United States, Canada, Guatemala, Italy, Costa Rica and Spain are the favorite international destinations for salvadorans. And among the local cities, the most searched were Lake Coatepeque, beaches of La Libertad, Suchitoto, Ruta de las Flores El Pital, Joya de Cerén, Santa Ana Volcano and Cerro Verde.

"After the pandemic, salvadorans will travel much more than before, but they will do so aware of the medical and non-medical contingencies that may arise during their journey. The new normal in travel is a mix between individual awareness and governmental obligation, given that more than 40 destinations currently require travel assistance to enter their territory", emphasized Tonhaiser.

The study also revealed 3 trends observed among salvadoran travelers when it comes to contracting assistance, the first is that they opt for higher medical coverage, exceeding US$1 million or even up to US$3 million. They also opt for additional services, such as COVID EXTRA, which covers those non-medical contingencies derived from a positive COVID-19 diagnosis and finally, they prefer the annual modalities, which shows that salvadorans are planning to take another trip this 2022.

"With a reactivation of tourism and the desire to travel, the focus will be on continuing to support the industry, raising awareness among travelers and consequently, achieving a 100% growth in sales during 2022", concluded Leonardo Tonhaiser, Regional Country manager Central America, Panama & Caribbean of Assist Card.
