COEXPORT and USAID visited Bemisal plant to verify progress of technical assistance in trade facilitation

Written by Evelyn Alas

Representatives from COEXPORT and USAID recently visited the BEMISAL plant as part of a tour of all the companies benefiting from technical assistance through the Regional Trade Facilitation and Border Management Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The objective of the initiative is to support companies from various sectors in streamlining their foreign trade operations.

During the visit, COEXPORT and USAID representatives and company authorities toured the facilities to learn about the processes and follow up on the assistance activities. With this assistance USAID and COEXPORT support companies to become more competitive and contribute to the economic development of the country.

"Bemisal's exports represent 60% of our sales and for this reason we are grateful for the support of COEXPORT and USAID through the Regional Trade Facilitation and Border Management Project because it allows us to be more efficient in our export processes and open new opportunities for our products to reach new destinations, so that we continue to grow and generate more jobs in El Salvador", said Florence Quiñonez de Sandoval, executive director of Bemisal.

The USAID Project's technical assistance focuses on three areas: identification and implementation of best practices, improvement of risk management, and support in the process of obtaining certifications to increase efficiency in foreign trade operations.

BEMISAL manufactures paper and cardboard products such as bags, packaging, and sacks, among others, and is a source of employment for 200 salvadoran families.

"Bemisal is an example because to become a reliable operator, companies have to prepare themselves with processes, safety issues, exports and respect for the rules. We want more companies to join this initiative", said Silvia Cuellar, executive director of COEXPORT.

BEMISAL is a company with more than 50 years of experience; and is a leader in the manufacture and export of multilayer paper sacks, commercial bags and flexible packaging, environmentally friendly. Its plants located in Santa Ana and Metapán, El Salvador, facilitate the efficient transportation of its products to the markets.
