Fundación Gloria Kriete in alliance with USAID graduates and provides scholarships to 54 young people of the Programa Oportunidades Santa Ana

The Fundación Gloria Kriete and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) celebrated today the eighth graduation of 54 students of the first phase of the Programa Oportunidades in Santa Ana, the young people received, in the same ceremony, a diploma and a scholarship for higher education in technical or long-term careers in one of the 21 partner universities.

Oportunidades, the flagship educational project of the Programa Oportunidades, has been empowering young people in El Salvador for 15 years through education, training in citizenship and values, digital transformation and job training. It is a unique program in the region, which intervenes over 8 years, from the student's entry.

Since 2007, a total of 3,600 young people have been marked by the seal of the program, hundreds of them tell their stories of success and overcoming. Currently, there are more than 800 young people inserted in the labor market, in various productive municipalities of the country and in different sectors of society.

Since april 2021, FGK Oportunidades has been working in alliance with USAID, jointly allocating a total of US$14 million to operate six Oportunidades centers for a period of five years, benefiting a total of 2,115 young people in the departments of Santa Ana, San Salvador, San Miguel, Sonsonate and surrounding municipalities.

"This agreement contributes to the prosperity and economic growth of El Salvador through the development of the human capital of the beneficiaries of the Programa Oportunidades. During these 15 years the Programa Oportunidades has impacted the lives of 3,600 young people, 21 alliances have been signed with universities, 1,308 scholarships for higher education have been awarded, 329 people have completed the Employability Certification Program and 804 young people have been placed in internships and permanent positions.

Proof of this is that the Class of 2021 is the second class to receive the majority of their classes online, thanks to our reinvention and total adaptation of teaching through our virtual campus; all of the young people in the Class of 2021 achieved the transition and coupling to the new virtual academic provisions in an exceptional manner. The 54 young people from Santa Ana are one of the graduating classes with the best academic averages in history", said Juana Jule, Director of the Programa Oportunidades and Executive Director of Fundación Gloria Kriete.

"We must as a nation and as a private company, support education, as it is the only way for our country to move forward. Over 15 years, we have seen how 3,600 families and their communities have been transformed. We have seen how 800 young people have closed the cycle working and being productive in society. At the Foundation we will continue working for the development of our country by investing in education" with these words he motivated the graduates to be agents of change and build a better country together.

The Programa Oportunidades, operated by Agape, has a solid organizational and administrative structure with coverage of 24.8% of the national territory. It serves its beneficiaries for a period of 5 to 8 years, leaving a positive impact on their lives, education, health and family economy.

The program operates since 2007 in San Salvador and since 2012 in Santa Ana, currently operates 4 centers in the saturday modality in the departments of San Salvador, Santa Ana, Sonsonate and San Miguel; and operates 2 centers in San Salvador and Santa Ana in the full-time modality. Starting in april, the program will open its 2022 selection process for the 6 centers.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE CLASS OF 2021

The 2021 FT class has always been characterized as a very competitive group with the ability to always look for better ways to learn. The 54 young people -16 men and 38 women from the Santa Ana campus obtained excellent results in the AVANZO test, and are one of the best graduating classes with the best academic averages in history; 50% of the total class will study STEAM careers.

100% of them will continue their university studies, and 89% of them will be on FGK scholarships at the most prestigious universities in the country.

In these three years, most of them studied in virtual mode, the 54 young people have shown perseverance, resilience, courage, commitment, love and passion for acquiring all the skills and tools that will allow them to conquer the working world.

They never lost their enthusiasm and commitment to their tasks and assignments, and they were able to adapt to a new work routine with a lot of enthusiasm and the necessary excitement to continue.

We also highlight the participation of Class 2021 in MUN-ESEN, obtaining good results.

In addition to an excellent result in the planning and execution of academic activities to close the year as Entrepreneurship Fair and Achievement Fair, where they showed their different technical and soft skills.

The student Andy Nicolás Linares Cabezas participated, represented and won a contest organized by FUSALMO in the area of computer science and won the opportunity to represent the country in the Robotics competition.
